What is NDBI?

Naturalistic Developmental Behavioral Interventions (NDBIs) represent an innovative advancement in early autism therapy. This evidence-based model blends the systematic teaching methods of Applied Behavior Analysis with developmental science.

Rather than working in a highly structured or clinical style, NDBI is child-led and play-based. The therapy fits seamlessly into your child's natural environment and daily routines.
Our clinical team targets foundational developmental areas during natural activities. This helps children build skills in communication, language, cognitive development, motor skills, social interaction, imitation, and play.

The Natural Learning Environment

Traditional desk-based therapy has its place, but young children learn best through natural, active play. In an NDBI program, our certified behavior specialists join your child in their daily routines. This can include playing with favorite toys, preparing snacks, or visiting a local playground.

By utilizing things your child is already motivated by, learning becomes effortless. Every interaction is transformed into a natural teachable moment. This child-led structure also ensures that skills learned during therapy are generalized immediately to the home and other daily settings.

Evidence-Based Approaches We Utilize

At B.E.S.T., we are committed to staying innovative by utilizing contemporary, clinically proven modalities. Our staff members undergo extensive training in multiple established NDBI models. This allows us to select and blend the exact techniques that match your child's unique learning style.

These models include

Pivotal Response Treatment (PRT)
Focusing on pivotal areas like motivation and self-initiation to provoke widespread developmental progress.
Early Start Denver Model (ESDM)
A comprehensive developmental intervention tailored specifically for infants, toddlers, and young children.
JASPER
(Joint Attention, Symbolic Play, Engagement, and Regulation)
Targeting social communication foundations like shared attention and play behaviors.
Project ImPACT
Empowering parents directly as communication coaches to help children build speech and social skills in day-to-day settings.
Reciprocal Imitation Training (RIT)
Teaching early imitation skills through child-directed, natural play.

Determining the Best Fit

NDBI is highly recommended for infants, toddlers, and young children under six years old who are in critical phases of social and language development. If you are looking for an early intervention program that feels like natural play, prioritizes child-led motivation, and integrates family routines, NDBI is an exceptional option. Our clinical supervisors will help evaluate your child to determine if this developmental approach is the most suitable pathway
